Sonar Assistant Terms
Appendix No. 1 to the Terms of Use · Effective date: May 25, 2026

1. Applicability

These Sonar Assistant Terms (hereinafter referred to as the 'Assistant Terms') are Appendix No. 1 to Terms of Use SonarSense services (hereinafter - "General Terms") and apply jointly with Privacy Policy and Sonar Assistant Privacy Policy.

In case of discrepancies between these Assistant Terms and the General Terms regarding the functionality of Sonar Assistant, these Assistant Terms shall prevail.

2. Product Description

Sonar Assistant is a desktop application for Microsoft Windows and macOS (Apple Silicon) that performs the following in real time:

  • capture of audio stream from the User's computer microphone
  • capture of computer system audio stream (loopback) when the User enables the corresponding function
  • formation of a text transcript of the conversation using speech recognition technology
  • AI-generated prompts for the User based on the transcript and (optionally) screen capture

In Windows, the application is installed via the NSIS installer in per-user mode without requesting administrator rights. Windows updates are downloaded from the domain assistant.sonarsense.io/updates/ with digital signature verification. The version for macOS (Apple Silicon) is distributed in DMG format and is not yet notarized by Apple, so manual confirmation in macOS security settings may be required on first launch.

3. System requirements and permissions

The following operating system permissions are required for the Application to work:

  • access to microphone
  • access to screen capture (only when the "Screenshots" option is enabled)
  • network access to Service domains and engaged guarantors

The application does not install system drivers, require administrator privileges, or modify operating-system settings.

4. User Obligations

4.1. The User confirms that they are a participant in the recorded conversation. The mere recording of information related to their contractual or business relationship by a participant is not prohibited. Such recording should not infringe on the privacy of the interlocutors or be used in violation of the law.

4.2. The User independently ensures the legal basis for recording and processing participant data. If notification or consent is required by law, organizational rules, agreements, participant jurisdiction, or the nature of the conversation, the User notifies participants and obtains the necessary consent before commencing the relevant processing.

4.3. When enabling the screen capture function during a video conference, the User verifies that they have the right to transfer screen content and obtains consent for the use of third-party images when required in accordance with Art. 152.1 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation.

4.4. The User bears independent responsibility to the interlocutors for violating these obligations. SONAR LLC acts as a personal data processor within the scope of the Service's technical function and is not the operator responsible for initially collecting consent from the User's interlocutors.

5. Prohibited use

Sonar Assistant must not be used:

  • for recording conversations without legal right (violation of Art. 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — invasion of privacy)
  • for blackmail, threats, or other illegal activities
  • for listening to conversations without the User's participation (e.g., leaving the microphone in someone else's room) — violation of Art. 138 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation
  • for recording conversations unrelated to the User's own civil-law relations

6. Data processing specifics

A detailed description of the categories of processed data, purposes, storage periods, the list of engaged data processors, and cross-border transfers is provided in Sonar Assistant Privacy Policy.

If voice data is used for identity verification in a specific scenario and constitutes biometric personal data, or is transferred across borders where law requires consent, the User must ensure that appropriate consents have been obtained: Consent to processing of biometric personal data, Consent to cross-border data transfer.

7. Cessation of use

7.1. The User may delete the Application from their device at any time using the standard operating system tools (Control Panel → Programs and Features on Windows).

7.2. The User may delete their account in their account on sonarsense.io. After the account is deleted, data related to the use of Sonar Assistant is deleted within 30 days (see the Privacy Policy, section 6).
